Moving and handling of people - CD-Rom/DVD

The moving and handling of people is widely recognised as being a major cause of back pain in nurses and carers.

Sunrise Medical, one of the leading global providers of medical equipment, Sunrise Medical has a wide range of lifts and slings, designed to be used in specific environments and situations. They needed to keep one step ahead of the competition by packaging training on correct handling with their range of lifts and slings.

The comprehensive guide, delivered on DVD and CD-ROM, uses a series of short video clips to show correct procedures for using the equipment. By filming selected combinations of sling and lift, the guide incorporates a matrix of video clips demonstrating good practice for a range of lifting situations.

An interactive interface allows users to view instances of a particular sling or lift being used in a typical environment. Alternatively they can select a lifting requirement such as moving someone from a bed to a chair and see how that can be tackled with a number of different lift and sling combinations.

Other programme sections provide background information and guidance on manual handling. In these 3D animation is used to show the effect of certain movements on the spine and back muscles.

From the start the project was designed for easy delivery using different media and in different languages. By providing a package with both a DVD-Video and CD-ROM, Sunrise Medical is able to ensure the widest possible audience for the guide. The first batch is being delivered in English, French and Spanish for the American and Canadian markets. Delivery of the video clips on the web is to follow, while many will be incorporated into the company’s face-to-face training presentations.
