BT Wholesale Broadband
In the early days of Broadband roll out, BT came in for severe criticism for not providing clear information on Broadband availability; it was necessary to perform two separate checks to see if you could get ADSL. There was a still a possibility that despite the check, the engineers would find that you could not be connected. Very frustrating!
DVA were asked to produce a site that could provide a clear response for visitors based upon the best information. Technically this required regularly polling and integrating the data from a number of databases and performing a number of transformations and calculations upon the data.
More importantly, visitors to the site simply needed to enter their phone number to get a definitive result - simplicity itself! For those who were moving to a new house a postcode could be entered for a more qualified response.
Later, for those who were given a definitive 'no' response, DVA developed a system that allowed disappointed visitors to 'pre-register' for Broadband, allowing them to start 'Broadband for my village' campaigns that, once they had got the necessary pre-registrations, would put their exchange on the list of exchanges to upgrade.
The success of the site is such that it no longer exists; Broadband coverage is now at 99%, but whilst it was in use it probably represented the most important site BT had.
